Adrian Herpe

Piano

French Franco-Ukrainian pianist Adrian Herpe is an artist whose work is shaped by a profound dialogue between tradition and exploration. Driven by a desire to uncover the psychological and philosophical depth of the music he performs, Adrian approaches the piano as a vehicle for emotional and intellectual inquiry. This search for meaning naturally draws him to the works of Brahms, Rachmaninov, and Prokofiev, where he looks beyond virtuosity to uncover the emotional and psychological worlds contained within the music.

While rooted in this repertoire, Adrian’s curiosity also leads him toward lesser-known works, contemporary music, and historical approaches to performance. Work with fortepiano specialist Claire Chevallier has further inspired an interest in period instruments and historical performance traditions. Shaped by both his French and Ukrainian heritage, his artistic vision reflects a continuing curiosity about the many ways music can be understood and experienced.

An active chamber musician who views collaboration as an important part of artistic growth, Adrian is equally interested in creating concert experiences that invite audiences into a more direct relationship with the music. He is particularly drawn to formats that encourage deeper engagement and dissolve some of the traditional distance between stage and audience. This commitment extends beyond the concert hall, and he has participated in numerous performances supporting humanitarian initiatives for Ukraine.

Born in 2000, Adrian studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and currently divides his studies between Vienna and Paris. A laureate of the Gautier Capuçon Foundation and a member of the Young Talent program at the Philippe Jaroussky Academy, he has received awards at several international competitions, including the Concours Brueghel, the Nice Côte d’Azur International Piano Competition, and Les Étoiles du Piano in Roubaix, where he was awarded multiple special prizes. In 2024, he received Third Prize at the Bösendorfer Competition at the Vienna Musikverein and was also awarded prizes from the Yamaha and Safran Foundations.
