About

To mark its anniversary, the Althafen Foundation presents a gala evening of rare artistic convergence: Martha Argerich returns to Berlin to celebrate the Foundation’s commitment to the next generation of musicians. Bringing together internationally celebrated artists and rising voices, the concert pays tribute to Argerich’s enduring artistic influence while spotlighting Althafen’s mission to shape the future of classical music through mentorship, innovation, and bold collaboration.

At the heart of the evening is Martha Argerich—not only as a soloist, but as a unifying presence around whom the program unfolds. Joining her are pianists Roman Borisov, winner of the 2022 Kissinger KlavierOlymp, and Anton Gerzenberg, a “Great Talent” in residence at the Wiener Konzerthaus from 2022 to 2024—two distinctive voices brought into direct conversation with Argerich on stage.

The evening opens with the Alvier TrioJulian Kairath, Dmytro Semikras, and Petar Pejić—setting the tone of youthful energy. In the second half, the world premiere of Carnaval de las Indias by composer Marc Migó, written during his tenure as the Foundation’s Artist In Spotlight 2025, brings together Argerich and Alan Kwiek under the baton of Oscar Jockel. He conducts an ensemble of soloists drawn especially for this occasion from the Foundation’s artistic network—including members of supported projects such as the Alinde Quartett and Verità Baroque Ensemble. Narration by Annie Dutoit-Argerich lends the work a poetic dimension. A handful of surprises remain purposefully undisclosed—true to Argerich’s lifelong affinity for the unexpected. The full program will be revealed on August 1, 2025.
