Mia Mandineau

Soprano

French soprano Mia Mandineau is an artist and creative entrepreneur driven by a passion for opera's past, present, and future. Her work is shaped by a fascination with the great vocal traditions of the twentieth century and a conviction that opera must continue to evolve, reaching new audiences through contemporary performance, education, and digital media.

Currently a Resident Artist at Detroit Opera for the 2025–26 season, Mia performs repertoire spanning both established masterpieces and new works. Recent appearances include a lead role in Detroit Opera’s « Apartment House 1776 » by Cage, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, Micaëla in Carmen with the Washington National Opera Orchestra, and Irene Adler in the world premiere of 221B: A Sherlock Holmes Opera. Her performances have brought her to venues including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Megaron Concert Hall in Athens.

At the center of Mia's artistic identity is a dialogue between tradition and innovation. Extensive research into the vocal masters of previous generations informs her approach to technique, style, and sound, while a love of theatre, cinema, and contemporary storytelling shapes her dramatic work on stage. Her growing experience in modern opera has given her the opportunity to bring new voices and new stories to audiences while maintaining the technical foundations of the classical tradition.

Beyond performance, Mia is deeply committed to expanding opera's reach. She is the founder of L'Opéra et ses Zouz, a digital project supported by the French National Centre of Cinematography that introduces opera to wider audiences through collaborations with institutions including the Opéra de Paris, Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, Detroit Opera, and OperaVision. Through these initiatives, she seeks to make opera more approachable, more human, and more connected to contemporary life.

A laureate of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, Mia has also received top prizes at major international competitions and participated in prestigious training programs including Wolf Trap Opera and the Sir Georg Solti Accademia. Across her artistic activities, a consistent thread emerges: a desire to preserve the knowledge and craftsmanship of the past while building new pathways into opera for future generations.
