Pamela Rosenberg is an American arts administrator and cultural leader renowned for her visionary leadership of some of the world’s most respected opera institutions. Her career reflects a commitment to bold programming, interdisciplinary collaboration, and strategic innovation in the performing arts.
She served as General Director of the San Francisco Opera from 2001 to 2005, where she introduced the concept of “Animating Opera”—a multi-season programming framework linking opera to contemporary social themes. Prior to that, she spent a decade as co-intendant of the Stuttgart State Opera, which under her direction earned international recognition for artistic excellence and progressive productions.
Rosenberg has also held senior roles at the Berlin Philharmonic and the American Academy in Berlin, where she served as Dean of Fellows. Across each position, she has championed initiatives that connect artists with civic life, challenge institutional boundaries, and promote cross-sector cultural exchange.
