Tom Zalmanov

Piano

Tom Zalmanov is an Israeli pianist whose musical life unfolds across solo performance, chamber music, and collaboration with singers. Rather than treating these as separate disciplines, he is fascinated by the ways they inform and enrich one another, offering different perspectives on communication, listening, and shared musical experience. Particularly captivated by the human voice, Tom is drawn to the interplay of language, expression, and storytelling, and to the unique partnership that develops between singer and pianist.

As a performer, Tom is guided by a search for sincerity and emotional truth. Inspired by artists such as Murray Perahia and Richard Goode, he approaches the piano not as a vehicle for display but as a medium for expression, seeking performances that speak with intimacy, imagination, and a sense of wordless poetry. For Tom, music's deepest value lies in its ability to connect people, whether among performers on stage, between artist and audience, or in the relationship between teacher and student.

Currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Peabody Institute under Richard Goode, Tom is exploring paths that extend beyond the traditional competition circuit. He is particularly interested in the nineteenth century tradition of concert making, in which solo, chamber, and vocal repertoire form part of a larger artistic whole. Through such projects, he seeks to present these different forms of music making as part of a shared artistic narrative, inviting audiences into a deeper and more personal engagement with the music.
